Cichlid Atlas Vol. 2
Many years in the making, Dr. Uwe Romer has volume two of is Cichlid Atlas series out! The book is currently available in the UK, but I don’t think it arrives in the U.S. until later this year. I ordered the UK version of this book upon release, and must say that it’s an excellent follow-up to volume 1. Like the first book, the multitude of information contained in this book is a little bit overwealming at first. But, after sitting down with it for a little while, it’s amazing how much useful information is contained.
There is an updated key for identifying Apistogramma. He updates the profiles on a number of species that he covered in volume 1, including, but not limited to A. agassizii and A. viejita. But, one of the main reasons to get this book is for all of the newly documented species. A. sp. “Nanay” or A. sp. “Papagei” is a beautiful fish from the Rio Ampiyacu that resembles, very closely, the beauty of the A. viejita fish.
Just like volume one, the entire book is adorned with photographs, depicting various colour-morphs, gender differences, and habitat.
I wouldn’t call this text an easy read for your bed-side table, but for your fishroom bookshelf, it is a must-have if you keep Apistogramma.
