Apistogramma sp. ‘Rotpunkt’ Pictures

February 3rd, 2008

I noticed some increased fin flashing activity in my 40G tank, and decided to try and capture a few good shots of my Apistogramma sp. ‘Rotpunkt.’ Some of the shots are better than others, but there’s no doubt that these are some pretty fish, whose colors especially pop under the new 2x96W lights!

A. sp. ‘Rotpunkt’ Non-Dominant Male. Not nearly as impressive, huh?

I should have used a flash above the tank to shoot at a better quality ISO, but I always end up spooking the fish in order to set that up.

Thanks for looking! Any comment/critiques are welcome, as always!

Thats an amazing fish. Is it a hybrid?

  2. guitarfish Says:

Nope, it’s a pure Apistogramma line.

Glad you had luck getting them to color up. I unfortunately lost the rest of that group in a water change but am going to refrain from picking them back up until after I move this spring so that I dont lose them a second time. The fish Kris has were F2’s from a breeder in Atlanta. The original wild pair of these was bred out by Ken Davis in Atlanta as well.

Thanks for the clarification on their origen, Rob! I’m sorry to hear that you lost yours! They’re beautiful fish!

Did you photoshop these pics? Plenty people I know kept these , and they weren’t nearly as colourfull…?

  6. guitarfish Says:

Naomi, the first picture was photoshop’d as more of an artist experiment, but the rest of them are accurate to how the fish appeared in my tank. Keep in mind that this was the dominant male and female in breeding colors. Of course, other non-breeding, non-dominant fish would not look so colorful. Lineage also makes a difference when talking about the coloration of any fish.

Thank you! What kind of lighting did you have on that tank? maybe it’s another reason why yours are so pretty 🙂

This tank has 2x96W PC lights with reflectors from AHSupply. I may have also used external flashes when taking these pictures, but I don’t remember for sure…
